Recognizing the early indicators that your hot water system is failing can be beneficial for any repairs or replacements that may be required. So, what are some signs you can look for to know your system is deteriorating?

A hot water system is an essential part of your property. We rely upon it daily for warm baths, showers, our laundry, cleaning, and cooking. It is often taken for granted, but the warmth and comfort we enjoy from turning on our tap depends on our hot water systems.

Signs of Hot Water System Deteriorating

Leaking water heater

Water leaks are a major sign that your hot water system is reaching the end of its life expectancy. If you notice droplets or pooling water around your hot water system, it is best to call a professional plumber.

Corrosion or rust around the hot water system

Corrosion or rust stains around the hot water system indicate that your hot water system is deteriorating. They can occur from a combination of factors, including water leaking, age of the water heater, sacrificial anodes in the water tank not working anymore, or external damage caused to the hot water systems. In any case, it is best to call a professional plumber to assess your hot water system.

Valve failure

Over time the bottom of the water heater tank will start collecting sediment. As sediment builds up, it can begin to break down the interior of the tank clogging the drain valve. This will block water from coming out. If this is occurring, it is essential to have a professional plumber replace your hot water system.

Low water temperature

A low or fluctuating water temperature may indicate that your water heater is insufficient or that it is struggling to produce the required water.

It is a good idea to keep an eye on your hot water system for any signs of deterioration. No one wants to experience a lack of hot water, especially in the cooler months. If you notice any of these signs, reach out to your local plumbing professional and get your hot water system assessed. They will be able to assist you with any potential repairs or replacements.

Hot Water System Malfunction

How old is your hot water system? A golden rule is to replace your hot water system every 8-12 years, depending on how it has been maintained. You can check the installation date on the hot water system itself. Generally, we advise our clients to install a new hot water system every five years. The age of the hot water system will affect the systems, affecting the quality and delivery of heating. A newer unit may also be more energy-efficient and help you to reduce the cost of your electricity bills. Look for the above factors to determine if your hot water system is faulty.
